Drive-Through Event At Redding Civic Will Mark Elder Abuse Month

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, and it’ll be observed by some events on Monday in Redding. As many as 1 in 10 older Americans are abused or neglected, and of those only 1 in 14 receive the attention of authorities. Shining Care, in collaboration with the Shasta County D.A.’s Office, Health and Human Services, Adult Protective Services and the RPD, will host a drive-through event at Redding Civic Auditorium on Monday from 7AM to 10PM, where people can pick up informational goodie bags and free window decals. The K-Shasta morning show will broadcast from the event. From 11AM to 1:30PM a free webinar through shiningcare.org will feature Paul Greenwood, an expert on the subject. People are encouraged to wear purple on Monday to promote awareness of elder abuse and later on the Sundial Bridge will be lit up purple.
