Containment has improved on the August Lightning Complex, but new evacuation orders were issued Thursday in Trinity County. The sheriff’s office ordered evacuations for areas north of the Kettenpom Store, up to the area of Bluff Creek and east of the Zenia Lake Mountain Road. Containment has improved in Beegum Creek, east of Pony Buck Peak and along Highway 36 east of Forest Glen. Traffic on Highway 36 is being escorted through the fire zone between the junction with Highway 3 and South Fork Mountain Summit twice daily, at 7AM and 5:30PM, and drivers have to be in line at those times or be left behind. Damage assessment crews in Southern Trinity County have confirmed 552 structures lost. A burned area emergency response team has arrived to direct rehab work. The largest fire in California history is 86% contained and has burned 1,032,300 acres. The complex is burning in 7 counties, including the far southwestern corner of Shasta County.
