Of the several fires that started on Sunday in Shasta County, at least two of them were started intentionally, resulting in arrests.
The Dersch Fire started on Leopard Drive off Millville Plains Road, reportedly by 29-year-old Caleb Michael Eckert, who was angry with his girlfriend and allegedly lit her car on fire so she couldn’t leave. He was arrested by Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies. The fire is still in mop up stage after burning 133 acres.
The Bailey Fire was actually three fires that started along Long Hay Flat Road near Bailey Road off Highway 44 west of Viola. They burned a total of around 6 acres. 36-year-old Daniel Timothy Sims was arrested and booked into jail for arson.
