McElvain Concedes In Redding City Council Race

There are still thousands of ballots being counted in Shasta County, but Redding’s Mayor has conceded defeat. The Redding City Council had two available seats. One of them will be for Mark Mezzano, with more than 26% of the vote. The other seat, however, was hard to say for sure. Incumbents Julie Winter and Adam McElvain are only 500 votes apart, with Winter in the lead. Challenger Jack Munns trails McElvain by just 176 votes. The final declaration is not due until Dcember 1st, but McElvain issued a concession statement Sunday.

It’s clear that the 1st District Congressional race, State Assembly and State Senate have been swept by Republican incumbents. Patrick Jones very likely has enough of a lead to claim the 4th District Shasta County Supervisor seat from Steve Morgan. The 3 Shasta Lake City Council incumbents have apparently retained their positions.
