Officials Hosting Community Meeting For August Wildfire Victims

The large Northstate wildfires will not be declared fully contained until a drenching rain completely douses them. None of the fires are expected to grow outside their perimeters and most of the work being done now is to repair some of the damage done by firefighting activities.

Survivors who lost their homes are encouraged to apply for federal assistance from FEMA and the S.B.A. The process can begin at disasterassistance.gov. Questions can always be directed to 1-800-621-3362.

A community meeting for people impacted by the August Lightning Complex will be held Thursday afternoon in Trinity County. State, federal and county officials will have information about the debris removal program, as well as the process for getting FEMA assistance. Hazardous debris removal is still underway. Phase two, which is optional, will remove remaining burn debris at no cost to the property owners. It’s set to begin in December. The meeting is at 4PM Thursday at the Ruth Lake Community Hall in Mad River.
