A Shasta Lake City man refused to surrender to deputies Wednesday morning after reportedly hitting his wife in the head with a beer bottle. A woman called to report the assault at 5:15AM, bring deputies the family’s home on Elizabeth Way. When they arrived, 32-year-old Levi Sherley was standing outside with the woman, who was bleeding from a gash in her head. She said she had been knocked unconscious. Levi ran into the house and locked the door. The couple’s three children were sleeping inside so deputies didn’t want to make too much of a disturbance. They tried unsuccessfully to reach Levi on his cell phone and told him through the door to come out. After a few minutes they forced their way in and found Levi face down on the living room floor with his hands tucked under him. He was told to show his hands but refused, so Ace the K9 helped apprehend him. After a hospital visit, Levi was booked into jail. The children, although undoubtedly traumatized, were not physically harmed.
