Coroner ID’s Woman Fatally Shot By Police As Marysville Woman

The Coroners Office has identified the woman shot dead by Redding Police Wednesday night as 62-year-old Dolores Hernandez of Marysville. She was apparently yelling and cursing at customers and management inside Mod Pizza in the Discovery Village Shopping Center on Dana Drive. She eventually went outside and spent another 20 minutes or so yelling at people in the parking lot, including a security guard who was trying to convince her to leave. Police were called at around 6:30PM and when officers arrived Hernandez was sitting in her car. As two officers were talking to her she put her car in reverse and started backing up, then went forward, nearly striking an officer before going in reverse again. Both officers walked around to the driver’s side and one of them started striking the side window with his baton. That’s when Hernandez turned the wheel sharply and knocked the officer down, backing the front wheel over the officer’s legs and pinning him in place. The other officer tried to pop the rear tire, then pulled his gun and fired 7 shots into the driver’s side window, killing Hernandez. The injured officer has already been released from the hospital. There were many witnesses, and anyone who has not yet been interviewed should contact the sheriff’s office at 245-6135.
