A collision in North Redding Tuesday killed a passenger in an SUV that apparently ran a red light. At 4 O’clock a Toyota 4Runner was northbound on Lake Boulevard when it ran the red light at Oasis Road and collided with a Buick, according to Redding Police Officer Ted Snyder. Officer Snyder says the red light violation was confirmed by witnesses as well as surveillance video. The Buick driver, 31-year-old Cassandra Petty, had been making a left turn from lake to Oasis and the impact knocked the Toyota onto its side and sent it into the light pole at the corner of the intersection. Petty sustained minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the Toyota were trapped for an extended period of time before they could be extricated by Redding Fire personnel. The passenger was dead at the scene. The driver suffered major injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. Neither of the Toyota occupants was wearing a seatbelt.
