Power Company Hosting Webinars On Proposed Wind Project

A couple of online informational webinars are being hosted by the company behind a proposed wind turbine project 25 miles northeast of Redding. The Fountain Wind Project 8 miles west of Burney would install up to 72 turbines and be rated to produce 216 Megawatts of power. At a height of up to 679 feet, they would be among the largest turbines in the U.S., and much larger than the existing Hatchet Ridge Wind Farm. The turbines would be spread over an area of nearly 4500 acres and installed on land leased from timber companies. An organized opposition group of residents has been actively fighting the project, saying the land is rated by Cal-Fire as a high fire hazard zone, much of it in the footprint of the Fountain Fire. The project is also opposed by the Pit River Tribe, who fear the impact on Native American cultural sites and wildlife, such as Eagles, Hawks and Owls. ConnectGEN, the energy company behind the project, is holding a webinar Thursday at 3 O’clock and next Tuesday at 4 O’clock. Information is at fountainwind.com/webinars. The opposition group’s website is stopfw.com.
