A woman armed with a metal pipe was arrested early on Saturday morning after a carjacking in which she reportedly tried to run over the victims, according to Redding Police. Officers were called just before 3:30AM to the area of Buenaventura Boulevard and Railroad Avenue to check on a stolen vehicle. The alleged suspect was armed with a metal pipe and stole the Pontiac Grand Am before fleeing northbound on Railroad Avenue. A short time later Officer Xavier Yabra spotted the vehicle in Downtown Redding. The car was pulled over and after a brief standoff 37-year-old Amy McCarty was arrested. Officers spoke with witnesses and they reported that prior to the carjacking, McCarty had struck the vehicle with a piece of pipe while it was stopped at a red light. The occupants of the vehicle got out and McCarty reportedly tried to hit them with the pipe. She than took the car and tried to run over the occupants one of whom was pregnant. McCarty has been arrested 7 times this year. Officer Yabra has had a very successful year in recovering stolen vehicles. He had received an award from the CHP earlier in the day for recovering 15 stolen vehicles this year.
