6:30AM Wednesday: 3 New COVID-19 Deaths Reported In Shasta County

Shasta County has reported 3 more deaths from Coronavirus, a woman in her 70’s, a man in his 80’s and a woman over the age of 89. That brings the death toll to 73. An additional 28 cases were confirmed from Sunday and 98 from Monday, for a running total of 7,918. An estimated 417 people have the virus right now, 42 of them hospitalized and 4 of them in intensive care. The regional ICU capacity has dropped slightly to 27.9%. A drop to 15% would trigger the stay at home order that’s already imposed on most of the state.

Butte County has reported 7,173 cases and 90 deaths.
Tehama County has had 3,253 cases and 36 deaths.
Trinity County has had 271 cases and reported a 4th death on Tuesday.
1,132 have been reported in Siskiyou County with 10 deaths.
Glenn County has had 1,392 cases and 14 deaths.
Humboldt County has had 1,678 cases and 20 deaths.
Lassen County has had 7 deaths among their 1410 cases in the community and two deaths among the 3,205 cases in prison.
Modoc County has had 315 cases and has reported their first death from Covid.

California has extended its strict stay-at-home orders in areas where intensive care units are running out of beds. The state’s top health official said Tuesday that Southern California and the San Joaquin Valley still have what is considered no ICU capacity and that the state’s Coronavirus restrictions would continue longer there.

Shasta County is currently issuing vaccinations to health care workers, of which there are nearly 14,000 in the county, as well as residents of long term care facilities. Other segments of the population will be vaccinated as supplies increase.

Local healthcare leaders are pleading with the public to slow the spread through the practices that have been recommended for months: Stay home and away from other people as much as possible and wear face coverings when going out. It’s up to everyone to protect those who are most vulnerable, and those who work in jobs that don’t give them the option to work remotely.

Public health is strongly urging everyone to get tested. It’s free and convenient with sites in Shasta Lake, Anderson, North Redding, Enterprise and Shasta College. The testing site at Breslauer Way has been moved to the Senior Hall on Benton Drive. Testing is by appointment only at lhi.care/covidtesting or visit shastaready.org.
