RPD K9 Helps Deputies Arrest Handcuffed Man In Cottonwood

A handcuffed man managed to elude deputies in Cottonwood. Thursday afternoon, a Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy went to a Second Street home to investigate a suspicious circumstance of some sort and encountered 25-year-old Lucas Andrew McLeod. Knowing McLeod had multiple arrest warrants, the deputy placed McLeod in handcuffs. As the deputy took a few steps away to gather McLeod’s things for him, McLeod took off running. With the deputy running after him, McLeod fled through the backyards of homes and the deputy lost sight of him. A CHP helicopter and Chase the RPD K9 were sent to help in the search. Chase picked up a scent and followed a track 375 yards through the neighborhood and found McLeod in dense brush in a field off Seales Lane. He was still wearing the handcuffs and was taken into custody.
