Some parents, coaches and student-athletes at Foothill High School are organizing a rally this Friday to drum up support for getting high school sports underway again. Team sports have been suspended since last spring because of coronavirus concerns. A group calling itself “High School Sports Initiative” is including Foothill in a coalition with dozens of other schools, mostly in Southern California and the Bay Area. The group says athletes may be experiencing a sense of loss and resentment with the absence of sports to reduce their stress and control anxiety and depression. The rally on Friday will take place simultaneously throughout the state. It’s not a school sponsored event, but the principal has expressed his support. The Let Them Play rally is Friday at 4 o’clock on the sidewalk in front of Foothill High School on Deschutes Road in Palo Cedro. Mask wearing and social distancing will be observed, according to organizers.
