Two people from two different households were shot in a domestic dispute Friday night in East Redding. Neighbors say they heard a man and woman fighting in an apartment off Hartnell near C Street. While police were on their way the neighbors saw the woman run out the front door and flee into a neighboring apartment, followed by 36-year-old Benjamin Pouvi Fata, who had armed himself with an assault rifle. Gunshots were heard before Pouvi Fata was seen retreating to his own apartment, which he reportedly lit on fire. After a struggle, RPD officers detained the 350 pound Pouvi Fata. Redding firefighters extinguished the fire, preventing any spread to other apartments. The two gunshot victims were Pouvi Fata’s girlfriend and the neighbor, both of whom were hospitalized in critical condition. Their names are not public for now. Two small children were in the apartment where the shots were fired, but they were not physically injured. Charged with a litany of crimes, including 2 counts of attempted murder, Pouvi Fata is being held on $2 million bail.
