Supervisors May Face Reprimand For Opening Chambers To The Public

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will examine the possibilities of reprimanding their own members. Although the agenda and the staff report don’t name names, the item is a result of Patrick Jones and Les Baugh opening the doors of the Supervisor’s Chambers, allowing members of the public to crowd in for a meeting a couple of weeks ago. The other three supervisors were attending the meeting from remote locations. The opening of the doors directly refuted a policy adopted by the board that forbade the public from attending as long as the county remains in the purple tier of covid restrictions. That policy has since been changed to allow limited public attendance. Options for punishing the two supervisors could include an official censure, which is basically just a statement of disapproval, or as harsh as a referral to the grand jury, who could in turn refer them to the district attorney for prosecution and removal from office.
