9AM Friday: 3 More COVID-19 Deaths Reported In Shasta County

Three more Shasta County residents has been killed by COVID-19. They were a man in his 70’s and two men over the age of 89. The death toll for the county is 126. Another 84 cases have been confirmed through testing, and 735 negative tests were reported from Wednesday. The total number of cases so far is 9,834. An estimated 428 people have the virus right now, 50 are hospitalized and 5 are in intensive care. The regional ICU capacity is 28.1%.

Tehama County has reported 4,408 cases and 44 deaths.
There have been 305 cases and 4 deaths in Trinity County.
1,463 have been reported in Siskiyou County with 13 deaths.
Butte County has reported 130 deaths among their 9,475 cases.
Lassen County has had 14 deaths among their 1,807 cases in the community and 2 deaths among the 3,417 cases in prison.
Glenn County has had 1,904 cases and 20 deaths.
Humboldt County has had 2,458 cases and 25 deaths.
Modoc County has had 385 cases and 3 deaths.

California says it’s OK to immediately begin using a batch of vaccine doses after health officials held a safety review because several people had reactions in San Diego. Doses from that specific batch of the Moderna vaccine were administered during a mass vaccination clinic in Redding on Saturday, but no ill effects were reported. Shasta County has 2,400 remaining doses from that lot, which will now be distributed.

Shasta County residents over age 70 represent about 11% of Coronavirus cases, but more then 50% of hospitalizations and around 80% of deaths. That’s why older people are at the head of the line to be vaccinated. Supplies are still very limited and as more clinics are scheduled they’ll be posted to shastaready.org.

Local healthcare leaders are pleading with the public to slow the spread through the proven practices of staying home and away from other people as much as possible and wearing face coverings when going out.

President Biden is ordering FEMA to begin setting up vaccination centers and the CDC to begin a program to make vaccines available through local pharmacies starting next month. The administration is trying to provide 100 million vaccine injections in 100 days, an initial step toward getting the country inoculated from the disease so that schools and businesses can fully reopen.
