RPD Chases Man To Red Bluff, Driver Arrested For 11th Time In Two Years

A Redding man tried common and uncommon means of escape before being captured Sunday afternoon. At 3:40PM, RPD Officer Travis Williams saw an SUV at East Cypress and Bechelli driven by 32-year-old Ruben Ybarra, a parolee he recognized from prior arrests. Ybarra had 8 outstanding warrants and when he saw the police car pull up behind him, he headed onto southbound interstate 5. When speeds exceeded 100 miles an hour, police backed off and called the CHP, which sent an airplane to follow Ybarra. From the air, he was seen exiting at Main Street in Red Bluff and pulling into the Home Depot parking lot before walking into the Holiday Inn. Officers of various agencies set up a perimeter while Otto the RPD K9 followed a trail to a second story locked closet. Ybarra was inside but he slid down a laundry chute to the first floor, where a State Fish and Game Officer was waiting for him. This was Ybarra’s eleventh arrest in the last two years.
