A man from Arizona who moved to Burney last year has been charged with murder. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office was called March 8th to the rear parking lot of Burney Church of Christ on Superior Avenue. 61-year-old Mark Russell Anderson was in a travel trailer with injuries he had suffered in an assault. Anderson was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding but died of his injuries last Thursday. Detectives learned that the assailant may have been 43-year-old Donald Joseph Marquez, who moved from Glendale, Arizona about 7 months ago and became acquainted with Anderson about a month before incident. He was questioned Tuesday at his new home on Sugar Pine Avenue and after providing a statement he was arrested for murder. The sheriff’s office has not disclosed a possible motive. The major crimes unit would like any information that may be helpful to their investigation.
