A Paradise woman has been arrested for DUI and for a hate crime after she reportedly sped through a work zone in Paradise yelling derogatory slurs. According to the Butte County District Attorney, on March 30th, 33-year-old Martina Marie Garcia drove her Ford SUV through the construction zone at about 50 miles an hour and reportedly was drinking a beer. Garcia sped off and returned a few minutes later and drove back through the work zone nearly striking an African American maw who was working a flagger while yelling racial slurs. The D.A. said another member of the work crew called 9-1-1 and then followed Garcia to her home. He said Paradise Police arrived and arrested Garcia for driving under the influence and assault. The district attorney says the incident was racially motivated after reviewing the police reports.
