Work Begins To Open Highway Through Lassen Volcanic National Park

Earlier this week crews began clearing the highway through the Lassen Volcanic National Park. According to the Park Service, the work began on Monday, and so far they have cleared about 1.5 miles of the highway between the visitors center and Windy Point on the parks south side. Crews are reporting lower than average snow pack, but still are working to remove between 6 and 8 feet covering the highway. Last year the 30 mile park highway was opened to vehicles on May 29th. Although the highway isn’t open to vehicles just yet, visitors can currently hike or bike a 10-mile section of the park highway between Loomis Plaza and the Devastated Area.
