Shasta County’s Coronavirus death toll remains at 219. Another 40 cases have been reported, as well as 1,248 negative tests. There have been 11,743 cases so far. An estimated 163 people have the virus right now, 9 people are hospitalized and 4 are in intensive care.
The South African variant of Coronavirus that has shown up in 6 patients in Shasta County has killed 4 of them. All 6 patients are connected, but the variant is more contagious and deadly than the original COVID-19. Vaccine is still showing to be effective in protecting against the variants.
Shasta is one of seven counties in California selected by the California Department of Public Health and Stanford University to participate in a study about COVID-19 antibodies. It involves an anonymous survey and an antibody test that will be sent to 45,000 households in the state. Details are at calscope.org.
Shasta County has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the state. Public health says the only was to beat the pandemic is for a large part of the population be immune. There have been 398 cases and 5 deaths in Trinity County.
1,976 have been reported in Siskiyou County with 21 deaths.
Butte County has reported 181 deaths among their 11,448 cases.
Lassen County has had 22 deaths among their 2,086 cases in the community and 2 deaths among the 3,593 cases in prison.
Humboldt County has had 3,659 cases and 38 deaths.
Modoc County has had 492 cases and 4 deaths.
