Chico Man Faces 30 Years In Prison For Defrauding FEMA

A Chico man faces a possibility of a very long prison sentence for filing a false FEMA claim from the Camp Fire. 32-year-old Evan Palmer entered a guilty plea Tuesday to federal charges. Following the Camp Fire in 2018, Palmer filed a claim for a travel trailer in Paradise that he said was his primary residence, but he actually had been living in a home he had leased in Chico. He received $26,490 from FEMA to fix his trailer and assist with temporary housing. Palmer will be sentenced in August, when he faces a possible 30 years in federal prison and a Quarter Million Dollar fine.
