New COVID-19 Cases Fall Nationwide, Trend Upwards In Shasta County

While much of California, including major urban areas, have completely reopened, Shasta County remains in the red tier with one of the lowest vaccination rates in the state and a case rate that increased this week from 7.5 to 8.7 daily cases per 100,000 residents.

 

Shasta County’s covid death toll remains at 226. Another 41 cases have been confirmed, as well as 858 negative tests. There have been 12,126 cases so far. An estimated 172 people have the virus right now, 10 people are hospitalized and 4 are in intensive care.

 

Public health wants people to have confidence in the vaccines, which are well proven after being administered to hundreds of millions of people. Vaccines are readily available and free of charge. They’re about 90% effective and no vaccinated person in Shasta County has died from COVID-19, or from the vaccine. Tehama County has reported 5,572 cases and 59 deaths.
There have been 400 cases and 5 deaths in Trinity County.
2,234 have been reported in Siskiyou County with 24 deaths.
Butte County has reported 182 deaths among their 11,817 cases.
Lassen County has had 22 deaths among their 2,113 cases in the community and 2 deaths among the 3,593 cases in prison.
Humboldt County has had 4,002 cases and 41 deaths.
Modoc County has had 499 cases and 5 deaths.

 

Deaths from the coronavirus in the U.S. have tumbled to an average of about 600 per day, the lowest level in 10 months. Confirmed infections have fallen to about 38,000 daily on average, the lowest mark since mid-September. They have plummeted 85% from a peak of more than a quarter-million cases per day in early January. The last time deaths were this low was early July. The coronavirus deaths in the U.S. topped out in mid-January at an average of more than 3,400 a day. The U.S. has reported 32.7 million cases and more than 582,000 confirmed deaths, the most in the world.
