Shasta County now has the highest number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 since the beginning of March. The county’s adjusted case rate has increased slightly from 8 to 8.2 daily cases per 100,000 residents.
Shasta County’s Coronavirus death toll is 228. There were another 28 confirmed cases and 236 negative tests reported from Sunday and Monday, for a total so far of 12,388 cases. An estimated 162 people have the virus right now; 15 are hospitalized and 2 are in intensive care.
Shasta County Public Health says this area shows a classic example of the three criteria that could lead to a local summertime spike in Coronavirus cases. One is lower vaccination rates. Only 42.1% of eligible people have had at least one dose, compared to 60.8% statewide. Another factor is high temperatures because the heat forces people indoors where the virus spreads much more easily. The third factor is low adherence to precautions among the unvaccinated.
Vaccine is now available in Shasta County for children as young as 12, with parental consent. Pfizer vaccine clinics are being held at the Redding Senior Center on Benton Drive Friday’s through Tuesdays from 10AM to 7PM, closed for lunch from 2PM to 3PM. Walk-ins will be welcome or appointments can be made at myturn.ca.gov . Vaccines are free of charge for everyone. No vaccinated person in Shasta County has died from COVID-19, or from the vaccine.
Tehama County has reported 5,656 cases and 59 deaths.
There have been 410 cases and 5 deaths in Trinity County.
2,337 have been reported in Siskiyou County with 29 deaths.
Butte County has reported 188 deaths among their 11,977 cases.
Lassen County has had 22 deaths among their 2,132 cases in the community and 2 deaths among the 3,594 cases in prison.
Humboldt County has had 4,253 cases and 43 deaths.
Modoc County has had 511 cases and 4 deaths.
