Newsom, Lawmakers Disagree On Revenue Estimates

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democratic leaders in the state Legislature disagree on how much money the state will have to spend over the next four years. Newsom’s budget proposal spends most of the state’s extra money on things that don’t require ongoing funding. But the spending plan endorsed by Democratic lawmakers Tuesday would spend more money on recurring programs. The Newsom administration says it has concerns about the Legislature’s plan. But lawmakers say they are confident the state will have about $20 billion more to spend by 2025 than Newsom says the state will have. The deadline to pass a budget is June 30.
