Fire Restrictions Now In Effect On BLM Land

The Bureau of Land Management has implemented fire restrictions on the areas it manages, effective Friday. All campfires and barbecues, as well as cigarette smoking, are prohibited except in certain campgrounds and recreation sites where they’re specifically posted as allowable. There are a number of unofficial gun ranges on BLM land, and they can still be used, but only from a 1/2 hour before sunrise until Noon. Target shooters must carry shovels and fire extinguishers. Also no motor vehicles are allowed to go off of established trails or roads. No chainsaws may be used after 1PM. Most of all, people are asked to just use common sense and keep fire danger in mind as they go about their outdoor activities. Violations could be punishable by a year in jail, a $100,000 fine and a bill for suppression costs.
