Community Center In Shasta Lake Opens As Cooling Center Due To Extreme Heat

Anyone who has a hard time getting relief from the extreme heat in Shasta County can take shelter in one of several cooling centers. The air conditioned spaces are open to the public. The Community Center in Shasta Lake City at the Civic Center at 4499 Main Street is open from Noon to 8PM. The Mount Shasta Mall is open 11AM to 8PM and all three Shasta County libraries are open as well. It’s important to avoid heat stroke by drinking plenty of water, wearing light clothing, scheduling outdoor activities carefully and moving at a healthy pace. Some signs of heat stroke include altered mental state, red hot dry skin, rapid pulse, throbbing headache and confusion or unconsciousness.
