Deputies Bust Pot Grow After Chase Suspect Crashes Into Illegal Garden

A man who was threatening to shoot people accidentally led Siskiyou County Deputies to an illegal cannabis garden before he got away. Last Monday morning deputies were called to the Mayten Store in the Montague area on reports that a shirtless man in a Subaru was pointing a rifle at people and threatening to kill them. The nearby Big Springs Elementary School was locked down. Right after a deputy took a report from a victim, a man matching the description drove by in a Mercedes, made eye contact with the deputy, then sped away on County Road A-12. The deputy chased the car into the Mount Shasta Vista area, where it crashed through a barbed wire fence and caught fire after landing in the middle of 713 pot plants. Deputies used their fire extinguishers on the flames while firefighters were responding. meanwhile, the suspected gunman who was driving the Mercedes got away on foot, and he remains at large. A search warrant was acquired to bust the cannabis grow, and the plants were destroyed on site.
