A man died in a plane crash in Modoc County Sunday. Sheriff Tex Dowdy says it happened just after 9AM on a ranch in the Community of Likely. A small aircraft was taking off from a field and for some reason failed to gain altitude. A 65-year-old Modoc County man died in the crash. The pilot, a 65-year-old man from Alturas, was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Redding with major injuries. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
