Evacuations are in effect for Big Springs Road from Highway 97 to McDonald Lane on both the east and west sides of Big Springs Road. Other areas being evacuated include the Mount Shasta Vista Subdivision, County Road A-12 north and south, Harry Cash Road, and 4 Corners to Hart Road. The Lava Fire is burning 3.5 miles northeast of Weed and 4.5 miles southeast of Lake Shastina. As of Monday morning the fire had grown to nearly 1450 acres and was 20% contained. Highway 97 is closed from Weed north to Macdoel as crews battle the fast-moving fire. It’s burning in very heavy timber and Sunday the smoke plume was seen developing into a Pyrocumulous system, and the wind was changing direction and pushing it back toward already contained areas..
