Man Arrested For Assaulting Elderly Man At Redding Bar

A man has been arrested for the assault of an elderly man outside a Redding bar over the weekend. At 1:30AM Saturday morning Redding Police were called to the Tropics on South Market Street. A 73-year-old man had been beaten to unconsciousness, requiring hospitalization. Surveillance video of the beating led to Sunday’s arrest of 45-year-old Christopher Meagher. He was booked into jail for assault and felony elder abuse, with bail set at $25,000. Meagher is one of the people accused of being involved in a politically-motivated fight between County Supervisor recall opponent Nathan Pinkney and recall supporter Carlos Zapata last month.
