Lava Fire Erupts In Size, 2nd Smaller Fire Reported Off Highway 97

The Lava Fire in Siskiyou county is 13,330 acres, according to the U.S. Forest Service. An evacuation warning was upgraded to an evacuation order for residents in the Communities of Lake Shastina and Juniper Valley, the entire Mount Shasta Vista area, the north side of Hoy Road north along Highway 97 to County Road A-12. Evacuations are in effect for Big Springs Road from Highway 97 to McDonald Lane, County Road A-12 north and south, Harry Cash Road, and 4 Corners to Hart Road. Highway 97 is closed from Weed north to Macdoel. The Lava Fire was sparked by lightning last Thursday 3.4 miles northeast of Weed. The last estimate had containment at 20%.

Another fire, the Tennant Fire, is estimated at 200 to 300 acres. It’s burning near the Junction of Highway 97 and Tennant Road.
