Fire Officials Say To Leave Fireworks To The Professionals

As far as Shasta County is concerned, there’s no such thing as “Safe and Sane Fireworks”. Although they may be purchased legally just across the county line in Cottonwood, fireworks of any kind are illegal even to possess in Shasta County. Citations will be written even for simple possession. If fireworks are lit, the penalty is greater, and if fireworks cause damage, there may be criminal charges and the person responsible -or their parents- can be held liable for all costs, both for damages and for fire suppression. Last year Shasta County Fire Agencies reported 21 people were cited for illegal fireworks and nearly 50 pounds of fireworks were seized. There were more than 90 fireworks-related calls for service, and 14 vegetation fires were started, including one that burned 8 acres. All the area Independence Day gatherings were canceled last year because of COVID-19, but here’s some of this year’s events:

— Redding’s Freedom Festival is on the 4th at the Redding Civic Auditorium, with one of the largest fireworks shows in California (1700 shells). Food and drinks will be on sale but there will be no stage entertainment.

–Anderson Explodes July 3rd – at the fairgrounds. Gates open at 5PM. Fireworks show after country music concert by Jackson Michelson and David Lee Murphy.

–Red Bluff will have a fireworks show at the River Park on the 4th.

–Weaverville will have a 4-day party Thursday through Sunday, with fireworks display Saturday the 3rd.
