8:30AM Wednesday: Lave Fire Continues To Rage In Siskiyou County

The Lava Fire in Siskiyou County has grown substantially since Tuesday and has now burned over 17,591 acres, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Fire mangers released updated acerage on Wednesday morning after a mapping flight was done overnight. Containment has been reduced to 19%. There’s no information available about how many structures have been lost. Evacuation orders are in effect for Carrick Addition, Highway 97 from Weed to Deer Mountain Road, Lake Shastina, Rancho Hills, Juniper Valley and Mount Shasta Vista.

25 miles up Highway 97 from the Lava Fire is the Tennet fire, estimated at 8,159 acres with just 5% containment.. Evacuation orders for the Tennet Fire include Bray, south of Macdoel including east and west Ball Mountain Road, Old State Highway and Juanita Lake.
