4:15PM Thursday: New Evacuations Issued As Salt Fire Grows To Over 4,500 Acres

Many evacuations remain in effect for a fire in the Lakehead area, while evacuations have been lifted for another fire in the Mountain Gate area. The Forest Service reported at 3:30PM Thursday that the Salt Fire is 4500 acres with no containment. It’s burning east of Interstate 5. It started near the Salt Creek exit Wednesday afternoon. Evacuation were ordered for Zola Drive, Cordes Court, and Solus Campground Road, as well as Toms Head, Antlers View and Old Mill Road. Evacuations were later ordered for the Lakehead area east of I-5 from Antlers Road to Riverview Drive. Just before 1PM Thursday the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office upgraded the evacuation warning for the Fenders Ferry Road area to an evacuation order. Residents on Fenders Ferry Road between I-5 and Gilman Road are being evacuated. Additionally, Delta School Road and Delta Road are now under an evacuation warning.An evacuation warning remains in effect for the west of I-5 from the south end of Lakeshore Drive to the north end of Lakeshore Drive.

The fire was spotting across the water on the Lakehead side Wednesday night, but firefighters aggressively extinguished those flare-ups. The #3 lane on Southbound I-5 is closed from the Antlers Bridge to approximately 2 miles north of Gilman Road.

Meanwhile the Wonderland Fire in the Mountain Gate area prompted evacuation orders for Tunnel Road and Bass Drive north to Tunnel Road. Those evacuations have been lifted. That fire began as a mobile home fire that spread to vegetation, burning about 4 to 5 acres. 2 men 1 woman and 3 children were displaced by the mobile home fire. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office was coordinating evacuations.
