Authorities Urge Extreme Caution As Golfer Sparks Small Fire Wednesday Afternoon

A fire that began on Quartz Hill Wednesday afternoon was stopped before it reached homes. It started with a utility-type work truck that became engulfed in flames on Quartz Hill Road between Snow Lane and Terra Nova Drive. Redding Fire Department and Cal-Fire both responded as the flames burned up the hill toward houses in the River Park neighborhood. Forward progress was stopped at about two acres, with the only structural damage being to some backyard fences. Value of the damage is estimated at $40,000.

As crews were fighting the Quartz Hill fire, a second call came in for a vegetation fire at Gold Hills Golf and Country Club. That fire was held to about one acre of dry grass and brush. It was caused by someone striking the ground with a golf club after their ball had gone into the rough.

Redding Fire Department says fire danger conditions are two months ahead of what they would be in a normal year and people should use extreme caution in everything they do outside.
