It’s taking a long time to convict and sentence all seven defendants from a cannabis bust in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest three years ago. In August of 2018 agents from the Forest Service, BLM, State Fish and Wildlife, Trinity County Sheriff’s Office and CAMP raided a cultivation site in the Shiell Gulch area of Trinity County. A car had just arrived and bags of processed bud were being loaded into the trunk. 84 one-pound bags were in the car, and another 500 pounds of processed bud was found at the site, as well as 6,544 growing plants. 28-year-old Pedro Alvarez-Alcazar, a Mexican citizen, reportedly tried to draw a knife from a sheath as he was struggling with an arresting officer. He’s been sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for conspiracy to manufacture marijuana. 5 of his co-defendants have already been sentenced and a seventh man will be sentenced in November.
