CHP Air Crew Rescues Injured Hiker In Remote Area Of Trinity County

Air transport was key in a rescue of a hiker in the Trinity Alps Tuesday. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office asked for help from CHP Air Ops after a distress signal was received from a personal locator beacon. A woman had been hiking with her teenage son and their dog around Granite Lake, which is around 6,500 foot elevation, when she fell and broke her leg. H-14 landed on a nearby ridge and the crew hiked down to the woman, stabilized the injury and prepared her for transport. Another CHP helicopter was able to land along the shore of the lake and the woman was carried by the flight crew about 100 yards through the water to the waiting helicopter. She was flown to a Redding hospital. Her son and the dog were flown separately.
