Evacuations Ordered For Western Shore Of Lake Almanor

The 253,000 acre Dixie Fire is 35% contained. Some evacuations have eased up, but fire activity is still extreme. Vast areas are still under evacuation orders, now including the Colby Creek area of Eastern Tehama County. New evacuation orders were issued on Tuesday morning for the entire west shore of Lake Almanor. Flames continue to consume a lot of interior stands of unburned timber and still pose a huge challenge to maintaining control lines. Crews have been fighting hard to protect Greenville. In areas where direct line is very difficult, it’s being backed up by contingency line.  At least 45 structures have been destroyed, along with 22 minor structures. More than 7,100 remain threatened. The Dixie Fire started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure.
