Bicyclist Dies After Crash In North Redding

Redding Police say a bicyclist died after being struck by a pickup in North Redding. Officers were called at 8:27AM Thursday to Lake Boulevard at Boulder Drive. Police say 36-year-old Melissa Johnson of Redding was driving a Dodge pickup westbound on Lake when, according to witnesses, she apparently failed to stop for a red signal at Boulder Drive. The pickup struck an unidentified bicyclist who was riding south and was in the crosswalk. The man riding the bike was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he passed away. The rider was not wearing a helmet. Police say the drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been a factor, but the investigation is ongoing.
