Crews Make Progress On North State Fires

A fire near Yreka has claimed some homes. The “Grade Fire” started Wednesday afternoon about 2 miles north of Yreka off Highway 263. The fire has burned 710 acres and 8 buildings, including 4 houses. It’s now 65% contained. 150 structures remain threatened but residents are being allowed back into the fire zone, but are being warned of the many hazards they may encounter.

Containment has improved for an arson fire near Hoopa in Humboldt County. The Tulley Fire was started intentionally around 4 O’clock Monday afternoon off of Highway 169 and Martin’s Ferry Road northwest of Weitchpec. It’s burning on very steep and rugged terrain in heavy timber and slash that hasn’t burned in over 30 years. The Tulley Fire has burned about 571 acres, with 20% containment. One residence and one outbuilding have been destroyed and another 40 structures remain threatened, though evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings.
