Siskiyou Wildfire Forces Evacuations, Crews Gaining Ground On Other Fires

A wildfire in Siskiyou County has grown to 5000 acres. The Gap Fire broke out a little before 10PM on Saturday night and is burning on the Klamath National Forest north of Hamburg and Highway 96. A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for the Horse Creek and Hamburg communities, and a pre-evacuation was issued for the community of Scott Bar. Highway 96 has been closed from the intersection of Highway 263 to the intersection of Scott River Road. Over 640 firefighters are battling the blaze, and there is no containment.

Evacuation orders have been lifted from an arson fire near Hoopa in Humboldt County. The Tulley Fire was started intentionally around 4 O’clock last Monday afternoon off of Highway 169 and Martin’s Ferry Road northwest of Weitchpec. It’s burning on very steep and rugged terrain in heavy timber and slash that hasn’t burned in over 30 years. Crews have been trying to prevent rolling material from tumbling out of the fire zone and spreading the flames. The Tulley Fire has burned about 599 acres, with 50% containment. 3 structures have been destroyed, including at least one residence. Another 40 structures remain threatened.

A fire in Butte County led top evacuations over the weekend, though they’ve now been lifted. The Santos Fire started at around 3:30PM Friday afternoon off of Highway 32 south of Forest Ranch. The blaze is now 89 acres with 70% containment. Highway 32 is open to one-way traffic.

Containment is almost complete for a fire near Yreka. The “Grade Fire” started last Wednesday afternoon about 2 miles north of Yreka off Highway 263. The fire has burned 710 acres and 10 buildings, including 5 houses. It’s now 96% contained. 150 structures remainĀ  officially threatened but residents are being allowed back into the fire zone as all evacuations have been lifted.
