A wildfire in Butte County continues to spread. The Saddle Fire started as five separate fires at around 4:30PM Monday afternoon off Pentz Road south of Paradise. It’s now more than 850 acres with 50% containment. 3 structures have been destroyed with another 300 threatened. A number of evacuation orders are in effect
There are more than 2000 fire personnel working a Siskiyou County forest fire, and some major progress has been made. The Gap Fire started on the Klamath National Forest 20 miles west of Yreka August 27th from an unknown cause. It’s burning in very heavy timber with a large buildup of dead and downed material. At least nine houses have been destroyed, and likely more. Mandatory evacuations are in effect on both sides of Highway 96 in the Scott Bar, Hamburg and Walker Gulch areas. The latest estimate of the Gap Fire is 29,800 acres, now with 65% containment.
