Police Say Suicidal Man Shot at Them

Redding Police say they never fired a shot when confronting an armed suicidal man in north Redding. At around 8:20 Saturday night officers arrived in the Gold Hills Neighborhood after a resident had reported a suspicious car parked in their driveway with people getting in and out of it. A car matching the description was seen on Gold Hills Drive, and officers were about to pull it over when it suddenly turned into the driveway of a home and stopped. As the officers walked up to contact the man in the driver’s seat, multiple shots erupted from inside the car. The driver then got, laid down on the ground, and shot himself dead. The man had reportedly told family members that he planned on killing himself if contacted by police. Nobody else was injured. One stray bullet hit an unoccupied house. The District Attorney’s office is investigating.
