Theft Victim Arrested After Filing False Report

A 31-year-old man was arrested in Shingletown Wednesday for greatly overstating his need for law enforcement. At 9:37AM Rusty Lamar called 9-1-1 and asked for help, saying he was in the Shingletown bar parking lot and somebody had a gun to his head. When the dispatcher asked for a description or the person he repeated himself and hung up. The call was convincing enough to bring the entire patrol operations shift as well as the AB109 Team and the CHP. All of them responded code 3 at high speed with lights and sirens blaring, most of them from Redding 30 miles away. They all swarmed the parking lot ready for the worst and found only Rusty Lamar standing in the parking lot in no danger whatsoever. He acknowledged being the 9-1-1 caller but said he made up the part about the gun to his head. He was hoping it would bring a deputy more quickly for him to report that his pick-up truck had been broken into, something he said had happened 4 hours earlier. He was booked into jail for filing a false police report. The pick-up truck break-in will be investigated by the Shingletown resident deputy.
