Police Arrest 2 On Mulder Charges, Both Released From Custody

Redding Police arrested two suspects for a murder that occurred late last week, but both suspects have been released and are not facing charges. Officers were called last Friday night to a residence on Magnolia Avenue to check on a victim of a possible assault. They arrived on scene at about 8:15PM and found 48-year-old Vandy Sombath deceased. Officers say that initial evidence found on the scene and other information obtained through the investigation led them to arrest 55-year-old Tracy Battaglia on murder charges last Saturday. As the investigation continued, they determined that Battaglia was not involved in the murder and Battaglia was released on Monday from the Shasta County Jail. Police than arrested 35-year-old Omar Alejandro Castro-Aguilar on Sunday on murder charges. The D.A.’s Office declined to file murder charges due to lack of evidence and Castro-Aguilar was released Wednesday. The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information on the murder of Vandy Sombath is asked to call Redding Police.
