Freddie Smoke Sentenced To Prison Term

The man who caused the deadly “Bully Fire” in Shasta County 2 and a half years ago was formally sentenced Thursday. On July 11th of 2014 Freddie Smoke the Third was driving a large rented box truck to deliver fertilizer to a marijuana grow site near Ono. When he drove into the dry grass the truck’s hot tailpipe ignited what became the Bully Fire. It burned 20 homes and more than 12,600 acres. Smoke was arrested and then released on bail before the discovery of a body in the fire zone 5 days after it started. 35-year-old Jesus Arellano Garcia died while trying to escape the fire. Additional charges were filed against Smoke but he was long gone by then. Smoke had moved to Indiana, where he was arrested September 27th and extradited back to Shasta County. He had faced charges that could have sent him to prison for a decade, but his guilty plea on reduced charges has given him a 5 year sentence, with parole possible after he serves half of it.
