Teen Arrested After High Speed Chase In Stolen Car

A teenage carjacker was chased at high speeds in East Redding early Tuesday morning, according to police. At 2:45AM Martin Pastrana called 9-1-1 from the parking lot of Movies 14 on Old Alturas Road to say a man had just taken the keys to his car, then fled in it. The 1993 Subaru Legacy was spotted by officers on Churn Creek Road being driven erratically with no headlights. The car was chased southbound at 80 miles an hour on Churn Creek until it crashed into some landscaping at the Super 8 Motel at Churn Creek and South Bonnyview. The driver jumped out and ran behind the motel. Sheriff’s Deputies and CHP Officers helped set up a perimeter and the suspect was caught as he tried to dash across Interstate 5. Pastrana was brought to the scene and identified him as the carjacker. He’s a 15-year-old group home resident. Pastrana, who works at the theater, said the boy had confronted him and acted like he had a gun, then pulled out a tire iron and demanded Pastrana’s keys, wallet and cell phone. Pastrana threw his keys at him while running away and calling 9-1-1.
