The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office does not try to collect fines through telephone calls. People have been getting calls from someone using names of actual sheriff’s office personnel. The caller claims to be with the warrants or citations department and says that an immediate payment is required to avoid arrest. Law enforcement agencies don’t operate that way and if there’s ever any doubt, the call taker should ask for a number to call back and then contact the actual authorities. Personal identifying information should never be shared over the phone.
