Releases From Keswick Dam Could Be Near Limit

Residents along the Sacramento River are urged to prepare for flooding and evacuation this weekend as releases from Keswick Dam into the Sacramento River will be near the maximum limit. The Bureau of Reclamation has already begun to increase the flows. They’ll reach 50,000 cubic feet per second Friday and will go up to 60,000 CFS Saturday. By Sunday the flows are expected to reach 70,000 CFS. The extra water will cause flooding. Park Marina Drive under the Cypress Bridge will be closed starting Friday. Flooding is also expected to reach the Sacramento River Trail, Lake Redding Park, west of Redding Estates, Turtle Bay East, and many areas that have not experienced floodwater in many years. In Tehama County they’re preparing for the worse. Thursday night the Upper Sacramento River was a torrent and forced evacuations in Sweetbriar, Cstella and Dunsmuir, but they’ve since been lifted.
